What Is Abortion Pill Reversal, and How Does it Work?
Abortion Pill Reversal is a method of reversing the effects of the drug mifepristone, which is the first abortion drug used in a medical abortion. One study has shown Abortion Pill Reversal to have about a 64-68% success rate.
If you have only taken the first abortion drug, mifepristone, and are looking to reverse its effects, please call us at Woman’s New Life Clinic as soon as possible. You will have the best chance of success if you start the protocol within 24 hours of taking mifepristone; however, many women have had success starting the protocol 72 hours after taking mifepristone.

How Does the Abortion Pill Work?
The abortion pill (medical abortion) is a two-drug regimen that consists of mifepristone and misoprostol.
Taken in succession, mifepristone first blocks progesterone, causing the lining of the uterus to thin and the pregnancy to end. However, this effect takes time to work.
About 24-48 hours later, women take the second drug, misoprostol, which triggers the uterus to contract and expel the fetus and related tissue with vaginal bleeding and abdominal cramping.
The abortion pill carries several side effects and risks, including cramping, bleeding, and infection.
How Can the Abortion Pill Be Reversed?
Abortion Pill Reversal adds progesterone back into a woman’s body with the goal of counteracting the effects of mifepristone (which blocks progesterone) so that the pregnancy can continue.
Certain factors can contribute to the procedure’s success, especially the length of time between taking mifepristone and starting the reversal process. Ideally, it’s best to start as soon as possible.
Also, if you are hoping to reverse the abortion pill, it’s critical not to take misoprostol, as that will trigger contractions to begin expelling the pregnancy.
