What Is Well-Woman Care?
As a woman, it is critical to take care of your reproductive system, not only for fertility but also for your overall health and long-term well-being.
We define well-woman care as the practice of a medical professional supporting the health and proper functioning of the female reproductive system. You can receive low-cost, well-woman care at Woman’s New Life Clinic.
What Is Included in a Wellness Exam?
Women should receive a wellness exam once per year, starting when they become sexually active. If not sexually active, women should begin seeing a provider if they experience an issue or if they reach the age of 21.
During a wellness exam, women receive:
- A Breast Exam to screen for irregular lumps and changes that could indicate cancer.
- A Pap Smear to screen for cervical cancer (this is recommended every 1, 3, or 5 years based on age and previous results).
- A Pelvic Exam to screen for any signs or symptoms of the early stages of cancer, STD/STIs, or other issues such as inflammation.
- A Physical Exam to review your overall health, such as your weight and blood pressure.
It’s vital to stay up-to-date on your well-woman care to catch and treat any health issues or conditions early. It will also help establish a health history so you can see how your health has changed from year to year.
If you’re at risk of having an STD/STI, annual testing is vital. STDs, such as chlamydia and gonorrhea, may not show any signs or symptoms, and the longer they are undetected, the more likely they are to progress into pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
We welcome you to schedule a low-cost, well-woman care appointment at Woman’s New Life Clinic. We can ensure you receive the screenings you need.
