The Care You Deserve When You Need It
Have you recently taken the abortion pill? Are you having second thoughts about your abortion decision? Did you know there is a successful treatment that may be able to reverse the effects of the abortion pill before the abortion process is completed?
You may have heard of abortion pill reversal and are wondering how it works. Here’s what you need to know.
ABORTION PILL REVERSAL FACTS
Abortion Pill Reversal is a medical process designed to reverse the effects of the abortion pill in an attempt to continue the pregnancy successfully before the abortion is completed. It has an approximate 65% success rate.
To understand how abortion pill reversal works, we first need to understand how the abortion pill works.
THE ABORTION PILL
The abortion pill, also known as RU-486, is a two-step process involving two medications:
- Mifepristone – designed to block your body’s production of the growth hormone, progesterone. Often referred to as the “pregnancy hormone,” progesterone is what promotes growth in a human fetus throughout a pregnancy.
- Misoprostol – induces cramping and contractions to empty the uterus. The experience is very similar to an early miscarriage.
In the abortion pill process, mifepristone is taken first, usually at the location of the abortion provider, and misoprostol is taken second, approximately 48 hours after taking mifepristone, to complete the abortion process.
THE ABORTION PILL REVERSAL PROCESS
In the abortion pill reversal process, progesterone is used to reverse the effects of mifepristone before the second medication, misoprostol, is taken and the abortion process is completed.
Progesterone has been used to support pregnancies for nearly sixty years and has no known health risks or side effects for the mother or the baby other than those normally associated with pregnancy. Progesterone has successfully been used to help women reverse the effects of mifepristone for years.
It’s best to start the reversal treatment within the first 24 hours of taking mifepristone. However, there have been successful reversals when treatment is started within 4-5 days of taking the abortion pill. It may not be too late.
Many women who take the abortion pill experience regret after taking the first pill (mifepristone). This is common and you are not alone if this is your experience.
